May 23 day 22 – There were two photos of St George UT in Earl ad Ethel’s photo album. One was of the LDS Temple and the second was a panorama of a portion the city. We were able to locate the LDS Temple without difficulty. Even today it still towers over a good portion of the city horizon. The all white temple must have stood out even more in 1937. With no interstate highway by-passing the central city, a photo of the church would have captured its impact to share with others. We photographed the temple from the same location they did, but thought that its features are better revealed from angled location.
We stopped at the County Visitors Center for help with the panorama city view but could not identify the exact location. That will have to be for another day. We were heading for Boulder Dam!
That is white! How do they keep it so bright?
It was constructed of red sandstone with a white stucco overcoat. The contrasts are striking because the whole region is tan, brown, and red sandstone.
